Cassandre Artist is well known for his Art Deco poster design using streamline and mechanization motifs portraying travel and innovative technologies. Cassandre Artist also explored visual movement with his posters displaying modes of transportation.

Cassandre Artistwas born in Kharkov, Ukraine in 1901 to French parents, eventually settling in Paris in 1915 with his family. In 1923 Cassandre Artist completed “Au Bucheron” which created a sensation throughout Paris, earned him instant fame, and was awarded the first prize at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs in 1925. Cassandre Artist designed for a few firms before making his debut as a painter for the theatre in 1933, and in 1934 also began teaching for a graphic art school. After coming back from WWII Cassandre Artist continued on various art projects, divorces two wives, and eventually committed suicide in 1968.
